Cetrimide 98% Functions & Applications

Cetrimide has a laboratory role as a cationic surfactant and selective component in microbiological media. Cetrimide agar is used for the isolation and differentiation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, illustrating an application in which inhibition of competing organisms is part of the medium design. The raw surfactant is not the same product as a prepared culture medium containing nutrients and other ingredients. Selection requires a reagent suitable for the validated medium and its quality controls. The 98% catalog wording needs an assay basis and confirmation of the alkylammonium composition. Cetrimide should also be kept distinct from cetrimonium chloride. Its documented laboratory functions do not establish that this supply is a ready made antiseptic, disinfectant or clinical diagnostic preparation.
