Lithium Hydroxide Functions & Applications

Lithium hydroxide is a reactive alkaline raw material used in industrial chemistry. A major technical application is the manufacture of lithium-based grease thickeners, where the hydroxide reacts with suitable fatty acids to form the soap structure used in the lubricant. Producer documentation also identifies use as a chemical reagent, for pH control in selected industrial systems and in carbon-dioxide removal applications. The supplied chemical form matters because anhydrous and hydrated products deliver different amounts of lithium hydroxide per unit mass. Technical and battery-oriented specifications also address different impurity requirements. Confirm the actual form and quality before defining reaction quantities, then assess conversion and the properties of the resulting material in the intended process.
