PEG-12 Dimethicone Functions & Applications

PEG-12 dimethicone is used to bring silicone-compatible and water-compatible characteristics into a formulation. Documented commercial grades support oil-in-water emulsions for products such as facial lotions, foundations and makeup removers. Their value lies in helping disperse the selected oil phase while contributing to a fluid application format. The ingredient name covers commercial variants, so the generic listing does not establish the same viscosity or processing behaviour as the separately listed liquid product. It should also remain distinct from crosslinked silicone-polyether elastomers, which serve different structural roles. Selection requires the actual supply specification and a trial with the intended oils. Examine dispersion, phase stability and application texture before using a reference formula as a manufacturing basis.
