PEG-20 Functions & Applications

PEG-20 is a polyethylene glycol identified by an INCI designation related to its average ethoxylation. Manufacturer grades associate this name with PEG 1000, rather than a polymer of molecular weight 20 or a 20% solution. It is used for lubricity, moisture attraction and plasticising functions, with documented applications in inks, soaps, detergents and lubricant systems. It can also serve as a chemical intermediate. Reference materials are solid at room temperature, which changes handling compared with lower molecular-weight liquid PEGs. Confirm the actual grade and presentation before selecting a melting or dissolution route. Evaluate compatibility, consistency and the required water response in the intended formulation rather than transferring a recipe from PEG 200 or PEG 400.
