Polyquaternium-22 (PQ-22) Functions & Applications

Polyquaternium-22 is a conditioning polymer with both cationic and anionic characteristics. Manufacturer reference grades are used in shampoos, hair-colour products and other alkaline hair treatments where a polymer must retain useful conditioning behaviour in a demanding formulation. Its role includes improving combing and the smooth feel of treated hair. The ability of a particular grade to tolerate an extreme pH should be established from its own technical data and confirmed in the intended system. This listing does not identify polymer solids or whether the supply contains a preservative. When developing a product, evaluate deposition, combability and viscosity alongside colour-system or surfactant compatibility. Do not infer dye reduction or treatment performance from the ingredient name alone.
