Potassium Stearate Functions & Applications

Potassium stearate is the potassium soap of stearic acid, used for surface activity and texture in suitable soap and cosmetic systems. Supplier applications include liquid or soft soap, shaving preparations and emulsions, where the soap contributes to the interaction between water and oily components. It should be distinguished from sodium stearate and from water-insoluble metallic stearates, since the counter-ion affects formulation behaviour. Its practical contribution depends on the full fatty-acid mixture, water content and other structuring ingredients. The name alone does not establish a complete ready-to-use soap base. Product development should assess consistency, lather and compatibility in the actual formulation, using the supplied grade's composition and incorporation guidance.
