Sandalwood Oil Functions & Applications

Sandalwood oil is valued in perfumery for a woody character that can lend depth and continuity to a fragrance composition. Indian sandalwood producer references describe creamy and milky facets associated with its santalol components, while other sandalwood species and processed grades have their own odor profiles. It is considered in woody bases and perfume blends where this type of background note is desired. The effect should be evaluated in the complete fragrance rather than treated as a guaranteed increase in longevity. Establish whether the supplied material is a natural distilled oil, a rectified fraction or a reconstitution before using a species specific description. This listing does not confirm botanical origin or the composition needed to make a quantitative santalol claim.
