Silica Dimethyl Silylate Functions & Applications

Silica dimethyl silylate is a surface-treated silica used to control rheology and the behaviour of dispersed solids. Manufacturer documentation for hydrophobic fumed grades identifies thickening, anti-settling and flow-related functions, with cosmetic, adhesive and coating applications among the relevant uses. The modified silica surface distinguishes it from an untreated hydrophilic silica and affects how it interacts with the surrounding phase. In formulation work, it can help develop structure or reduce the tendency of particles to settle, provided it is properly dispersed in a compatible system. The strength and flow of the resulting network depend on the actual grade and formulation. Select it using the surface-treatment and processing information for the supplied material.
