Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate Powder (SCI 85) Functions & Applications

Sodium cocoyl isethionate powder is used to build high-foaming synthetic-detergent cleansing bars. Manufacturer guidance highlights rich lather and hard-water tolerance, which makes this chemistry relevant where conventional soap scum is undesirable. The powder can be distributed through a solid cleansing base, with other ingredients setting bar hardness, plasticity and the feel during washing. The SCI 85 designation should be checked against the actual active-matter specification rather than read as proof of a complete composition. Free fatty acids and other accompanying components can affect processing as well as texture. A powdered grade therefore needs evaluation separately from needles or flakes, particularly for dispersion and the consistency of the manufactured bar.
