Sodium Saccharin Functions & Applications

Sodium saccharin is a water-soluble sweetening ingredient used in products such as toothpaste, mouthwash and suitably controlled food or pharmaceutical formulations. Its sweetness can help shape flavour perception without adding the bulk associated with a conventional sugar ingredient. Manufacturer applications include beverages, confectionery and table-top sweetener blends, although each market requires its own grade and permitted-use review. Sodium saccharin should be distinguished from the less water-soluble acid form of saccharin. Commercial products also vary in hydration and particle presentation, which affect assay interpretation and incorporation. Formulation work should assess dissolution, sweetness balance and aftertaste alongside the other flavour components. Confirm the supplied specification before assigning food or oral-care suitability to this catalog item.
