Sorbitol Functions & Applications

Sorbitol is a polyol used for humectancy and, in appropriately specified formulations, bulk sweetness or plasticization. Its water-binding role is useful in moisture-containing preparations, while supplier examples also show the ingredient as a formulation aid in syrups and other liquid systems. The physical supply form determines the manufacturing route: a dry sorbitol ingredient must be dissolved or dispersed as appropriate, whereas a syrup adds water and any other documented components. This generic listing therefore should not inherit the concentration of the separately named 70% liquid product. Select the material using its actual composition, grade and crystallization profile. Application trials should address moisture balance, texture and the stability of the complete formulation.
