Tween 60 (Polysorbate 60) Functions & Applications

Polysorbate 60 is an ethoxylated sorbitan ester used to build oil-in-water emulsions. In personal-care development it is commonly combined with sorbitan monostearate and fatty alcohols, creating an emulsifier system suitable for formulated oils and waxes. Supplier guidance includes emulsification of ester oils, mineral oils and silicone oils, making it relevant to creams and lotions with different oil-phase compositions. The balance between the emulsifiers and the consistency-building ingredients influences texture and stability, so the ingredient is selected as part of a system. Polysorbate 60 should remain distinct from polysorbate 20 and polysorbate 80, whose fatty-acid structures differ. Confirm the supplied grade and assess the complete emulsion under the intended processing and storage conditions.
