Zinc Gluconate Functions & Applications

Zinc gluconate is a zinc salt of gluconic acid used as a source of zinc in appropriate nutritional formulations and as a zinc-containing ingredient in selected personal-care products. Its relevance to supplements and oral-care development comes from supplying zinc in a defined chemical form, rather than from acting as a pigment or thickener. In skin-care concepts it may be evaluated for formulations directed at oily or blemish-prone skin, subject to the evidence and claim rules for the market. Formulators should confirm elemental zinc content, grade, solubility, intended route of use and regulatory suitability instead of assuming cosmetic and food grades are interchangeable.
