Propylene Carbonate Functions & Applications

Propylene carbonate is a cyclic-carbonate solvent used in specialized industrial formulation systems. Manufacturer applications include electronic-process cleaning and selected electrolyte formulations, with different commercial grades designed for their respective purity requirements. In a cleaning formulation it serves as part of the solvent system, while an electrolyte application places particular demands on water and other impurities. These uses should not be treated as interchangeable merely because the principal chemical is the same. The material is also distinct from propylene glycol, despite the shared first word in the name. Specify the solvent function and process requirements, then assess the supplied grade's composition and compatibility with the complete formulation and contacted materials.
