Sodium Sulphite Functions & Applications

Sodium sulphite is a reducing ingredient used in several industrial processes. Manufacturer applications include removing dissolved oxygen during boiler-water treatment and consuming excess chlorine in wastewater, where the reagent is selected around the required process chemistry. It is also used in pulp manufacture and as a reducing or sulfonating agent in chemical processing. Food and other specialized grades are supplied separately, so an industrial application does not establish suitability for ingestion or personal care. Catalyzed sodium sulphite preparations should also remain distinct from an unspecified salt. Confirm the actual grade and composition, then determine addition and operating conditions from the process water or reaction system rather than applying a universal treatment level.
